Bodie is indeed the answer!
This mining ghost town, in it's heyday, was once one of the largest and most lawless towns in the west! Today it is located south of Bridgeport Calfornia and is a State Historical Park.
When Kyle and I were in Bridgeport we thought about going to Bodie. A local was telling us about the place and how cool it is. But it's a 23 mile hitch one way and we needed to get back on the trail, so we didn't end up going. Bummer!
