Day 85: leaving Bridgeport...kinda. Lol!

Thursday 7/12/12
Miles 0
Elevation: 7,000'

Sorry not many pics today. Was busy trying to get out of town. Lol. The one pic I have is of me on my way to the laundromat. We washed our clothes in the bathtub and took it next door to the laundromat to dry, because the washing machines are expensive. O.o

So, today was an absolutely random and epic day! :) Getting out of Bridgeport was interesting. We got a hitch from a firefighter dude from south lake Tahoe who just got back from fighting a wildfire in Colorado. He was cool, shoot I forgot his name. Ironically enough, he's going to Oahu on Sunday. Lol. I hope he emails me, I was gonna try and hook him up with a surfboard as stuff on Oahu.

Anyhow, we accidentally missed the hwy 108 junction by 14 miles. Oops. Lol. So we ended up in some random little fishing town on hwy 395 called Walker. From there we got a hitch back to the hwy 108 junction from a dude who is a greyhound bus driver from Colorado; he was on vacation.

By the time we got to the hwy 108 junction it was around 5:30pm. We still had 17 or so miles to go to get back to the trailhead at Sonora Pass. There wasn't much traffic coming our way. Ugh. In the event we couldn't get a hitch, at least we were by a stream. We could just camp there and try him in the morning.

Then shortly after, a car pulls up, heading in the opposite direction. A man jumps out and says he can take us to the trailhead, or, he'll take us in for the night, feed us, then drive us to the trailhead in the morning. WOW!! :). What amazing luck!! Him and his wife housed us that night and cooked us hamburgers and gave us beer, a shower, and a place to sleep. WOW!! Turns out they are former PCT hikers (2009), and they are stoked to take in hikers. That is so cool!! Unexpected trail angels!! :). Their names are Tom and Tori and they are sooooo awesome! In the car, I saw some rock climbing shoes and harness. COOL!! Tom is a climber, and he works at the Marine Corps base nearby, where they train marines in mountain warfare, mountaineering skills, and rock climbing. That is so rad!!

They made us yummy burgers and we spent the night exchanging trail stories. It was soooo awesome!! The year they hiked was a high snow year so we were comparing our experiences. Tom showed us a video of an awesome rap song he composed while on trail. Lol! It was so cool :D THANK YOU TOM AND TORI!!! You guys are amazing!!

It's incredible the randomness you come across on a trip like this. I could probably write an entire book just on my Hitchiking experiences alone. Lol! Gosh the sunset is pretty :)
